What is Neevii Ink?
Neevii Ink is an image editing and compositing application aimed at visual effects work rather than general photo editing. Its working space is scene-linear (ACEScg), it processes 16-bit half float and 32-bit float imagery, and it uses OCIO for colour management. It has a compositing engine underneath a layer-based interface, with tools that will be familiar to Nuke and Photoshop artists. It includes generative AI features that can run entirely on the artist's own machine.
Colour and pipeline
- ACEScg scene-linear working space with ACEScc / ACEScct viewing transforms.
- OCIO config management, including loading a studio's own show configuration.
- Show LUTs applied to the view; the underlying pixels are never modified, so colour decisions stay non-destructive.
- 16-bit half float and 32-bit float processing, with EXR and HDR imagery.
- The data and the view transform stay separate, matching how a VFX pipeline expects colour to behave.
Generative editing
Neevii Ink supports generative Remove, Replace and Extend from a selection. It works in any of its supported colour spaces — 8-bit or 16-bit integer, or ACEScg linear 16/32-bit float — without converting the plate first. A selection can be extended onto a larger canvas, and the new area is filled in context.
Local AI and air-gapped use
Generative features can run on locally hosted image generation models using the artist's own GPU. In that mode the application works with the network disconnected, which is what makes it suitable for air-gapped studios. Three arrangements are supported, and they can be mixed per task:
- Local — models on the artist's own machine. Works with the network cable out (air-gapped).
- Studio / on-premises — the application points at a studio's own inference server, so data stays inside the studio network.
- Cloud (optional, opt-in) — the user can connect their own cloud provider through their own API key, under that provider's own terms and charges.
Only the crop and the mask are ever sent, and only to wherever the user points them. Neevii does not run a hosted image service of its own, and the application does not require an account.
Platforms and downloads
- Windows — Windows 10 / 11, 64-bit. Offline installer (.exe) that includes the WebView2 runtime, so setup needs no internet connection. The build is unsigned, so Windows may show a publisher prompt.
- Linux — Ubuntu 24.04+ (x86_64, glibc 2.39). Offline
.runinstaller; runchmod +xon it first. It installs per-user and needs no root or FUSE. - Version: v0.1.0 (build e7c86f4, October 2026). Installers are published on GitHub Releases; SHA-256 checksums are published alongside them.

Licensing and price
Neevii Ink is free for personal use, with no watermark and no feature limits. Personal use covers learning, experimenting, hobby and personal projects, and work that is not paid and not for any business or organisation.
Commercial use requires a licence. Commercial licensing (a freelancer licence and a per-seat studio licence) is coming soon, and pricing has not been decided yet. Neevii is deliberately not publishing prices while it focuses on adoption, and there are no prices to quote at present.
There is no DRM and no online licence check, because the product is used by air-gapped studios. Details: Download & licensing.
Frequently asked questions
What is Neevii Ink?
A scene-linear image editor and compositing application for VFX, with OCIO colour management and local generative AI, for Linux and Windows.
Is Neevii Ink free?
Yes, for personal and non-commercial use. It is free with no watermark and no generation credits, because local AI runs on the user's own hardware. Commercial use requires a licence; commercial pricing is not yet published.
Does Neevii Ink need an internet connection?
No. It can run fully offline and air-gapped using locally hosted models. Cloud image generation is optional and only used if the artist chooses to connect their own API key.
Which colour spaces does Neevii Ink work in?
ACEScg scene-linear as the working space, with ACEScc and ACEScct viewing transforms, OCIO configuration management and show LUTs. Imagery can be 8-bit or 16-bit integer, or 16/32-bit float linear.
Can Neevii Ink edit without converting the image first?
Yes. Generative Remove, Replace and Extend work in any supported colour space, including ACEScg linear 16/32-bit float, without converting the plate to another format first.
Is Neevii Ink a Photoshop alternative?
It is an image editor with familiar layers, brushes, grade and masking tools, but it is aimed at VFX pipelines rather than general photo editing: scene-linear ACEScg working space, EXR, OCIO, and native Linux support, which Photoshop does not offer on Linux.
What platforms does it run on?
Windows 10/11 (64-bit) and Linux (Ubuntu 24.04+, x86_64). It is native on both, so an artist does not need a workstation of each.
Who makes Neevii Ink?
Neevii, an independent software company in London. Neevii Ink is built by a working VFX artist.
